GAO Analysts Elections Process
The GAO Employees Organization has regularly scheduled elections for the analyst bargaining unit every year in October, as per our Constitution. Vice-Presidential officer positions are up for election in odd numbered years, while all other positions are up for election in even-numbered years.
In addition, out-of-cycle elections may be triggered if a seat becomes available during the year (for example, if a delegate or officer vacates a seat).
Note that in even numbered years, we schedule officer elections before delegate elections so that members who run for an officer position that they do not win may also run for a delegate seat afterwards. For all elections, the GAO Employees Organization’s independent Elections Committee informs eligible voters of the elections schedule, including times for nomination, voting, and announcement of the results.
Dues-paying members may nominate themselves or any other member to run for office by sending an email that includes the name of the person nominated and the position for which they are nominated to email@example.com. Nominees may submit a statement to the elections committee, which will be shared with the voters in the event of a contested election. Representatives for mission teams, field offices, PDP staff, and Communications Analysts must currently belong to the group they would be representing. For all other positions, any dues-paying members interested in representing that group may run. We list available positions and update them daily as appropriate.
Also note that all officer elections, except the election of Vice-President for Field Operations, also result in election of those officers as delegates to the IFPTE convention every three years. (2018 is the next convention.)
Candidates and supporters, please be aware of the rules for campaigns.
